Summer rental enquiries eased across Great Britain, Rightmove reports

Rental listings across Great Britain received an average of 11 viewing enquiries each during July and August 2026, according to Rightmove’s latest analysis. That was below the average of 12 in the same months of 2025 and well below the average of 28 in 2022.

The national average hides large local differences. Birkenhead and Wallasey on the Wirral each averaged 30 enquiries per available rental listing, while Carlisle averaged 29. At regional level, Scotland had the highest average, at 19, followed by the North West at 16. London’s average was nine.

Rightmove counts an enquiry when a prospective tenant phones or emails an agent to request a viewing. These figures measure interest in viewing a home, rather than completed tenancies. The analysis covered 1,000 locations across England, Wales and Scotland. To qualify, a location needed at least 25 new rental listings and 25 agreed rental transactions.

The figures describe the summer market, rather than current demand for any particular home. For a separate view of rents agreed on new tenancies, see our August rental-price update.
