In London, England, Foxtons recorded 24 new renter registrations for every newly instructed rental property in August 2026. That was the highest monthly ratio in its data so far this year. It is a measure across the agent’s network, not a count of applications received by each home.
The ratio rose 22.4% from July, according to the August lettings report. Yet new renter registrations fell 3% over the month and were 12.3% lower across January to August than in the same period of 2025. Competition per new listing can rise even while the number of people registering falls.
The report uses separate TwentyCi data for London rental listings. Those listings were 5% lower in August than in July, but 2.9% higher across the year to date than in the same period last year. These figures describe different parts of the market and should not be read as a forecast for any one property.
If you are preparing to let a London home, recent enquiries and achieved rents for similar properties nearby will be more useful than a citywide ratio. Our August UK new-tenancy rent update gives wider price context from a different dataset.
