Telford and Wrekin Council in England has withdrawn its additional licensing designation for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). Its current guidance links to a revocation instrument dated 11 September 2026 and marks the original designation as revoked.
For landlords who have already applied for an additional licence, the council says it will contact them with information and a refund where applicable. If you need to ask about an application, its Private Sector Housing team can be reached on 01952 381818 or at PrivateSectorHousing@telford.gov.uk.
Mandatory licensing still applies
The withdrawal concerns the council’s additional scheme. Its guidance continues to require a mandatory licence for privately let HMOs with five or more occupants forming two or more households, subject to exemptions. Landlords with an existing mandatory licence should continue to follow its conditions.
