HMRC confirms Saturday MTD deadline and help for landlords

Landlords required to use Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax this year have until Saturday 7 November 2026 to send their second quarterly update. HMRC has confirmed that the weekend deadline is not brought forward: you can submit before or on the Saturday.

In a reminder published on 2 November, HMRC also explained how to deal with mistakes in earlier records. If you spot an error in a digital record, correct it as soon as possible. The correction will be included in your next quarterly update, so you do not need to resend the previous update.

A quarterly update summarises your property and self-employment income and expenses through compatible software. It is separate from your annual tax return, and sending it does not create a tax payment deadline.

The first mandatory group started MTD on 6 April 2026, based on qualifying income above £50,000 in the 2024–25 tax year. Exemptions can apply. Our Making Tax Digital guide for landlords explains the thresholds and links to HMRC’s eligibility checker.

If you need help sending this update, HMRC recommends contacting it during the week, when its full phone service is available. It will also provide Self Assessment helpline support on Saturday 7 November from 9am to 3pm for people who need assistance submitting their quarterly update.
